Network design is the creation, maintenance and expansion of your business network. Getting multiple computers to share the Internet and various applications, with different levels of access for different computers can be a complex process. Good network design keeps a business flowing smoothly by allowing all employees to have the access they need, regardless of physical location or the demands of network security. A poorly designed network can cause no end of problems and poor business efficiency, so it’s important to put your design in the hands of a trusted company that can do it right. Firewall SecurityFirewalls are designed to prevent unauthorized access to your computer network while allowing those who need it and are authorized for it to have unfettered access. Trying to manage a computer network without one is just asking for visits from independent hackers and corporate saboteurs. A firewall must be configured properly to provide the protection you need. A firewall without the proper configuration might as well have an open door set into the middle of it that anyone is able to see and walk through. In contrast, the right firewall can keep your business safe and running smoothly at all times only letting authorized personnel in and keeping unwanted visitors out. Wireless AccessOne of the challenges to an effective, functioning computer network is the physical limitations of keeping all computers and needed hardware connected. In the early days of wired computer networks, this cold only be done by connecting computers through physical network cables and switches. Fortunately, today, you can have a wireless network. With all computers and necessary peripherals connected wirelessly, virtually any physical limitations to the functioning of your computer network are wiped away. Remote AccessSometimes you need to access your computer and files at work while you are away from your desk and physically not in the office. Driving to and from work to make a change in a file or fix a problem on your computer can be a waste of time and money. Remote access allows you to access your computer from a remote location, anywhere in the world where there is an internet connection. Imagine updating a file that is stored on your computer or server at work, from the comfort of your own home or while you are out of town. Remote access enables you to work from virtually anywhere! User ManagementUser management is key when you may want each computer in your network to have access to all files and systems, but maybe restrict the level of access to each individual user. It's not appropriate or safe for new hires to have the same access and permissions as an executive. Setting up an easy to facilitate user management system will accomplish this important requirement as well as keep your data safe from those who should not have access to it. Network PrintingOne of the benefits of being on a network is that documents from anywhere on the network can all be printed to the same printer. This cuts down on costs and keeps things organized, as there is no need for multiple printers or to hunt down documents that are sent to one of several printers in the office. Combine this with remote access and you can print your files from home on your network printer at work for your co-workers to manage while you are away. File SharingAnother way to help business move smoothly and quickly is through file sharing. If one user has a crucial file, he or she can get it to anyone else in the company instantly through the network via file sharing server. A library of critical files can be located in a database for any authorized user to pull from as soon as it’s required, to any computer in the network. Setting up file sharing is probably the number one thing you can do to dramatically increase the efficiency and organization at your business. |
